A visit to Argentina has changed the life of Blake Mycoskie, a small business entrepreneur and a school drop-out. I bet she didn’t have something so specific in mind– like a light-weight shoe design of the Argentine alpargata concept, but certainly she had something like TOMS in mind.

“I was sitting on a farm pondering life, and it occured to me, ‘I’m going to start a shoe company, and for every pair that we sell, I’ll give a pair to someone who needs them’”
“Why shoes?”
Podoconiosis or “Mossy Feet” is a disease wherein the fungus penetrates the pores of the skin of the feet and gradually destroys the lymphatic system.
The children in Argentina, who all happen to have no footwear, were hence thus not allowed to go to school because they were suscpetible to infection.
THEIR MOVEMENT: For every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we’re all about.

Alpargata design reflects the espadrilles wedges we have today. It used to be a peasant footwear worn mostly during summer and spring.

Ralph Lauren for TOMS–”to create a handful of Rugby designs including a black pair wit h embroidered skulls and colorful striped versions with rugby numbers.”
It’s TOMS for tomorrow. Be part of it.
